3G Challenge 30.08.08

THIS PAGE IS CURRENTLY BEING UPDATED
£20 (adults) £15 (junior) £60 (family of 4) £70 (team of 4)

For the 5th 3G Challenge we said that we were going to make some changes and changes we have made. In a complete change to the route you will be glad to find out that for 2008 the 3G is a circular ride with a start/finish in Cannich from the village Hall. This means NO MIDGE PROBLEM and no need to put bikes on to trucks.

We have made the route slightly shorter but if you liked the single track from Tomich to Corrimony then the Eves Road will widen the grin. And it doesn’t stop there!! With the agreement of landowners we are really looking forward to the route winding through some of the less visited areas. You will even be finding a new way to cycle in to Glen Affric.

For this year we are asking participants to respect the wishes of several estates that have environmental projects, wildlife surveys and sensitive stalking areas. We ask that the route north of the A831 (the new bit for 2008) not be cycled prior to the 3G as this will conflict with ongoing operations. It will also make it virtually impossible for us to use this route again in 2009.

New for 2008 - 'Pre G'. We urge people to spend more than the day in the beautiful area of Strathglass and Glen Affric. It is such a great place with a large variety of accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets. So if you are in the Glen Affric area on Friday 29th August, you can join the ‘PRE G - Pasta in the Pub' at the local Slater's Arms. Numbers are limited to 40 so please book early. This is a chance to meet up the night before and get the carbs down you.

Come and join us in a cycling event for all to enjoy - The 3G Challenge supported by Horizon Scotland, Forestry Commission, Square Wheels, MBR, Wilderness Scotland and Edinburgh Bike Co-Op. Choose from:
  • Strenuous Challenge c. 48 miles around Glen Affric, ideal for the serious
  • Family Challenge 20 miles from Corrimony to Cannich, ideal for juniors
The 3G Challenge can be ridden as an
  • individual (adults £20 or Juniors £15) or as
  • part of a team of 4, either corporate or private (£70 per team)

By taking to your bike and joining in the fun you will be helping out Highland based charities (no minimum sponsorship set), supporting a National Nature Reserve and promoting the beautiful region of Glen Affric whilst having a rewarding fun day. To date just over £33,000 has been raised for Children 1st and the Special Care Baby Unit at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.

The majority of the route will be off road on forest tracks and cycle routes leaving you to enjoy a traffic free day. With 2 different starts along the way, you can decide which of the above challenges to take on - making the 3G Challenge THE mountainous mountain bike challenge for all levels.
