3G Challenge Charities 2008
This year Children 1st and the Special Care Baby Unit at Inverness' Raigmore Hospital will be the charities who will benefit 50 / 50 from any sponsorship money raised. To date just over £35,000 has been raised by the 3G Challenge riders.
For over 100 years CHILDREN 1ST, the Royal Scottish Society
for Prevention of Cruelty to Children, has been working to give every child in
Scotland a safe and secure childhood. Today CHILDREN 1ST supports families
under stress, protects children from harm and neglect, helps them recover from
abuse and promotes children's rights and interests. Throughout Scotland our
staff and volunteers use their skills to help children overcome the
difficulties in their lives and rebuild trust and confidence. Our Highland
Centre is at Killen on the Black Isle where support is provided to children and
young people who have been abused - emotionally, physically or sexually. We
help them to overcome the effects of abuse, and we help parents and carers to
support their child through these difficult times. We ensure that children
understand that they are not to blame for what has happened, and we give them
the skills to protect themselves in the future. Come and join us in a cycling
event for every all to enjoy - 3G Challenge.
The Special Care Baby Unit within Raigmore Hospital provides
20 cots for the specialist care of premature and sick babies within Highland
region. Our philosophy of care determines that the needs of the individual baby
and family are central to the delivery of holistic, family centred care
provided by a core of specialist nursing and medical personnel. As a unit we
are always tremendously touched and appreciative of the support we receive from
the local communities, particularly with regard to fund raising and associated
events. Over the years, SCBU has benefited enormously from the many events held
locally and farther afield, providing us with equipment and other items to
enhance the overall care to our mothers and babies. Our current aim is to
redesign a new Parent Facility / Mothers' Room within the unit where parents
can spend quiet time with their little ones - in relaxed, comfortable and home
inspired surroundings. The funds raised for the SCBU has privded 3 life saving
machines and helped re-eecorate the parents' room.
